If you asked Udo Edlinger to sum himself up in just two words he’d say ‘I’m a Rock Rat’. Raised on the shores of Sydney’s beautiful Bondi beach with his father as his teacher and Sydney’s beaches and harbour as his classroom, Udo has learnt pretty much all there is to know about fishing, diving, surfing, boating and just about any other adventure junky activity you can think of in or out of the water and thanks to his mothers prowess in the kitchen he’s also an expert at cooking up the catch! His education begun as a toddler with many happy hours spent foraging away in the rock pools at Bondi and still today you are likely to find him around the same spot, somewhere just off the shore in his tinny casting out a line at sunset.
At 37 Udo may be all grown up but his fascination and enthusiasm for the outdoors has never dwindled. He now runs a successful boat brokerage company ‘Absolute Boat Brokers’, has sailed over 15,000 miles through the Pacific Ocean, regularly organises and oversees boating shoots for both still and motion pictures and once even had a brush with Hollywood fame when he drove the getaway boat in the block buster movie Mission Impossible II, filmed on Sydney’s Harbour. He also contributes to a whole host of fishing and boating magazines such as Fishing World and Trader.
But above all else Udo Edlinger is a fisherman; he once tried to give it up and says it was the most terrifying weekend of his life! So it was in 2006 that Udo combined his talent for entertaining with his passion for fishing in the Lifestyle channel television series FISH. Co-hosted by his brother-in-law and best mate celebrity chef Pete Evans, FISH followed the pair as they fished, cooked and sometimes bickered their way through some of the most picturesque and remote fishing spots in Australia.
Udo’s ability for cooking up the catch has also seen him become a regular guest on programs like Channel 9’s Fresh and previously Lifestyle’s Home. His enthusiasm for life is infectious and all those that know him will tell you there is never a dull moment when Udo is around! In 2008 he will continue to pop up on our screens whilst working on his own production and publishing projects.
